It would explain all the rain...
Yes, I'm still alive! Yes, I sucessfully moved behind the Orange Curtain two weeks ago! Yes, I've been unpacking and redecorating in all of my spare time since then! Yes, I'm thrilled that I now live REALLY close to where I work!
I still like my job, although things have been VERY busy during the day, so I don't usually have a chance to check LJ often, much less post anything! My official start date as a permanent employee here was October 4th. My first paycheck was supposed to be sent last Friday, but as of yesterday, I still hadn't received it. It turns out they sent it to me without bothering to list my apartment number. I was a little peeved at this, since I did TELL them my full address, but they voided that one, reissued me a new check and sent it by FedEx to my office for today, so at least now I'm solvent again!
Plus, my commute has been cut down to six miles each way, entirely on surface streets. My average commute time is 13 minutes. Even today, with me driving slower due to all of the rain, I was at work within 20 minutes.
The apartment is great. I'm unpacking more boxes gradually, nearly all the required/ordered furniture has been obtained/delivered, and the living room and dining room have been painted yellow and dark red, respectively. (I've had enough of painting, though! There's a reason you can't spell "paint" without "pain"!) I've made good use of the hot tub in the complex a couple of times, and I fully intend to continue!
Irvine is a little sterile, but really nice. I'm starting to find my way around, gradually. I've found my nearest Target, bank and grocery store. I've done some damage to my credit card at the local Bed Bath & Beyond, and I've found John Wayne airport, which is ten minutes away and just adorable!
I'm hoping to finish all of the unpacking by the end of the month. I won't have anyone over before then (unless, of course, you'd like to help me unpack!), but I'll have a housewarming at some point in November. Details will be forthcoming when I know what the heck I'm doing!
But in any case, I'm alive and well. If anyone wants to venture down to the OC to see me, drop me a comment or an e-mail!
