On this day...

(Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] entitymel and [livejournal.com profile] dalisair)

On my birthdate, the number ones were:

US chart:
Rhinestone Cowboy - Glen Campbell

UK chart:
Everything I Own - Ken Bouthe

You know, I've never heard of either of these!

Sigh. I'm too old. My life's theme songs are Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore (UK) and Ballad of the Green Berets (US). That's pretty depressing, don't you think?

[identity profile] entitymel.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
The Ballad of the Green Berets is one of the most moving, important songs I know, actually.

We discussed it often in my household.

Doesn't work all that well for a pacifist Quaker, really...

[identity profile] entitymel.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well, not as a theme song, of course... but the way we discussed, and what it's meaning was, wasn't as a literal tribute.

Please accept my apologies if I offended you with the comment.

I'm not offended - it takes way more than that! I've just always been uneasy with the "military" as a whole. I am OK with individuals, mostly, but I was raised to believe that it's wrong to kill other people, so I have a fundamental disagreement with people who believe that it's OK. I don't generally seek discussions of it, just try to live my life in accordance with my own beliefs.

Bravo!!!

And thank you for not mentioning the utter lack of apostrophe-usage comprehension I displayed in my reply. I should know better than to try and respond intelligently when I'm groggy. *sighs*

I'm so very pleased to know you.

[identity profile] fiddleteacher.livejournal.com 2005-03-10 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
As to apostrophes - hey, I teach third grade. It's almost starting to look normal!!

You need happier songs!

Try a different date!

[identity profile] twistedcat.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 02:40 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] xinamarie.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Nope! I blame my parents. ;)

[identity profile] twistedcat.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
must...

fix...

that...

[identity profile] fiddleteacher.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, an excess of good taste and fiddle music (not mutually exclusive categories!) ran rampant through the house. Hmm... now that's in interesting picture!

*I've* even heard Rhinestone Cowboy. Not for many years, though.

[identity profile] gnawtee.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Rhinestone Cowboy is like one of the songs I remember most from my childhood!
:D

[identity profile] kenderkin.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 03:07 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] xinamarie.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, doesn't ring a bell, sorry!
